A community land trust is a non-profit organization through which residents jointly steward land within their own community, rather than ceding land to private ownership. Rather than housing, NEBRS work is focused on stewarding open spaces for the purpose of parks, recreation, and conservation.
Once a property is acquired, NEBRS works to ensure safe, ongoing access to sites, include rubble and trash cleanups. We then work with our neighbors to determine desired site uses and fundraise to implement those uses.
No. NEBRS properties are held in perpetuity for community use. If our residents determine that a property should be sold for public interest, revenue from that sale would be returned to NEBRS for future land purchases.
NEBRS works in the communities comprising the Monongahela Valley East Shore, neighborhoods within and around 15104: North Braddock, East Pittsburgh, Braddock, Rankin, and Swissvale.

In NEBRS' organizational model, our residents have direct decision-making power over how land is managed. Our Board and staff are all residents of the communities in which we work.
